So, I'm new to this program and have been figuring things out as I go. One question I can't seem to answer is how to make one activity drive other activities.

For instance, this basic sked I'm building is only date dependent. Activity one, two, three and four are 5 day long jobs and A-1 is A-2's predecessor, A-2 is A-3's predecessor, a-3 is A-4's predecessor. A-4 is the end.

Activity one starts on Feb 1st. When I run the sked, it doesn't automatically push the other activities forward. Why not? What setting do I need to adjust to make it do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Grog,
Just to be sure, if you made the relationships properly, please press on F9 key on the keyboard or select Tools menu then select Schedule. Then click on Schedule button on the dialog box. If you already did this, and still it doesn't work, then please post screenshots showing the relationships, so that I can try to understand where the problem is.

Cheers,

Thanks for answering Ahmet.

Yeah, That does it, I went searching and found this thread too:

I guess I just didn't understand what the "schedule" button actually does. I see now that you can make it run during any schedule changes or only when you hit F9

May I ask besides Paul Harris' book do you know of any good tutorial resources for someone like me? I'm trying to build a schedule for a project that has already been started; it was built in MS Project and was converted to P6.

All the activities and wbs have been built, but not all the relationship lines have been put in so I'm afraid that if I run the schedule it's gonna mess things up.

Guess I'll export it with a different name, import it back in and mess around. I imagine I'll be on this board quite a bit. But if anyone has any starting points on this I would be very thankful.

If you want P6 scheduling to function like MS Project then press F9 then Options box. One of the check boxes at top says "Schedule automatically when a change effects dates". Check that box. Any changes from that point on will "auto-schedule" and that way you dont have to keep pressing the F9 key.

The F9/Schedule key was a way to make a bunch of changes at once without effecting the schedule immediately. Its a matter of preference.
