Hi,

I have reinstalled my Windows XP without doing any backup of my project database using the MSQL backup.

After I have re-installed the P6 programme I would like to load my older project database which I have managed to copy to a temporary location under the folder name : MSSQL$PRIMAVERA

I hope I have explained well my case and any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

If I understand you correctly, you have the database files from before but didn't back them up. If that is the case, you can take the following steps.

1. Create a new database in SQL Server with exactly the same database name as before. You could use the Primavera utility to do this and it will look after login names for you.

2. Stop your SQL Server databases through System Services

3. Cut the files that were created for the database and copy them to somewhere out of the way - just in case. On my machine they are called pmdb$primavera_DAT.mdf and pmdb$primavera_LOG.ldf. My database is called pmdb$primavera.

4. Copy only the *_DAT.mdf file from your previous installation to where you just cut the new file from.

5. Use Services to start SQL Server up.

Take a look at the answer I gave in this post http://www.primaveratools.com/Forum/tabid/132/afv/topic/aff/3/aft/1152/Default.aspx

You should just have this problem to resolve and you're back in business.

Alternatively get someone who knows SQL Server to do it for you.
