We added a new project in P6 with the admin profile. The project was coded properly for viewing by a restricted user. When we logged on as that user, the project was not visible. We then proceeded to add several more projects coded specifically for that user, logging in as the restricted user after each addition. Each time we logged in, the restricted user saw a different combination of these newly added projects. Eg, After adding projects x, y, and z, the first login showed only x, the second time logging on the restricted user saw y, the third login showed x & y, and the fourth time it showed none of these projects.
There were two existing projects that showed up properly each time, while the newly added projects showed up only sporadically, and then finally disappeared. These newly added projects bore the proper coding and were always viewable by all the other admin accounts. Why did the restricted user's account only see some of these projects, some of the time?

The view or update right of the projects are managed by the EPS node that they are created under. If the user doesn't have view right for the EPS node that newly created project is under, naturally the limited right person will not be able see it. The security of Primavera is a bit complicated for the beginners, you shall read the manual carefully. Basically, user's are assigned to the OBS nodes, then you are assigning OBS nodes to the Responsible Manager fields of the EPS/Project/WBS nodes. You are assigning users to the OBS nodes using Admin->Users then Project Access tab, there you are assigning OBS nodes to the user with different security priviledges.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for responding Ahmet. We understand how user security is applied within the OBS etc. This does not explain why projects only "sometimes" appeard for the specified user in an inconsistent manner. I'm including the response I got from Primavera which seems to make more sence in that we are dealing with a P6 "bug". As follows;

There is a known issue (bug) in P6 where the OBSPROJ table does not get updated correctly.  This table contains the information that connects users' security profiles to responsible manager assignments.  It has been fixed in version 6.1, so you can upgrade if you'd like.  If you need to stay at version 6 for any reason, we have fixes that I will send you in a separate e-mail.

regards
